Cubism was an art movement during the early 20th century which artists began to go against traditional techniques of painting changing perspective, modelling, and foreshortening therefore taking a more Abstract approach to art. Cubist artist would reduced and fractured objects into geometric forms, and then realigned these within a shallow space and used multiple or contrasting vantage points.
The main artist that are believed to have created the movement was George Braque (1882—1914) and Pablo Picasso (1881–1973). A French artist used the term ‘Cubism’ after seeing a landscape painting by Braque as there was a repetition of geometric forms . Cubism also exerted a profound influence on twentieth-century sculpture and architecture.
Cubism also helped inspire new abstract artists and art movements such as Dadaism and surrealism to begin
