Woman with a Mandolin, 1909
Pablo Picasso

The painting is abstract it shows a ‘Woman with a Mandolin’. The woman seems to be partly or fully nude therefore makes me question why that is? Is it because she is poor or did Picasso do this to make sure the attention was more on the woman than the background so that he didn't create negative space. The painting is from the Cubist movement for that reason this painting would of made a statement against traditional techniques of painting.
Picasso uses Chiaroscuro well as there is light and dark sections which creates effect for the viewer also the Tone of this work is great as there’s a gradation of light and dark in this painting. In my opinion to an extent there is a pattern in this work as there is a repeat of geometric forms . Space in this painting gives the illusion of depth around the body of the woman.
